Research #2

LOCATION

After lots of thought I decided to use this location, below.

The shots above are of a Hastings Antique Store. The store is crammed with props that we can use, and the atmosphere will be made more uncomfortable by the penetrating feeling that someone could be hidden.

SOUND PALETTE
  • Voicemail message recording which will be used over the opening shot tracking through the building. There will be various voicemail messages all giving an insight into the protagonists life.
  • 1930's jazz music  might be used when the protagonist is exploring the basement, he could turn a radio/ put a cassette in a tape player. This music will juxtapose the confusing and frightening atmosphere the protagonist has found himself in.
  • White noise a sound similar to this might be integrated into the jazz music to emphasise the characters disorientation.

9 FRAMES

1) Tracking movement through the building and into the basement
2) Long shot of the basement, showing a man lying on the ground in the middle of the frame
3) High angle / aerial shot of him waking and getting up, staggering
4) Mid shot of mirror, showing him standing up and gaining balance
5) Mid shot of the man from behind, walking into the main area and starting to look around/explore
6) Close up of half of his torso and hand trailing over objects
7) Mid-close up of man's face and shoulders from the side or 3/4 behind, showing a scared/confused expression
8) High angle of man stopping at the base of stairs, looking up
9) Slightly low angle and mid shot of another man at top of the stairs

When filming, I will be using the strong ideologies of colour representation to highlight the different personas of characters to the audience. Stereotypical colour representation includes pink for girls and blue for boys.

The colour palette above is based upon dark colours, the atmosphere in our genre should be quite scary and so these colours promote darkness - which unnerves the audience.

However, this can also be juxtaposed and be very effective in giving the audience an idea about a certain person. Below you can see how the girl dressed in blue is playing base ball, this suggests that base ball is a male sport.

When considering the Mise en Scene of my piece, the location will have a brown colour palette, this will ensure that the character is the main focus, but will also reinforce the idea of an eerie place (inside an old antique shop). When considering the clothing, I think that I will use dark coloured, brown, green and blue clothing on girls to juxtapose the idea of a "girly" girl - this will be parallel to the location as it will be eerie and mysterious.
